The Sleep Chamber
Sleep is an essential building block for a child’s mental and physical health, and it plays a crucial role in the development of young minds. In addition to having a direct effect on happiness, research also shows that sleep impacts alertness and attention, cognitive performance, mood, resilience, vocabulary acquisition, learning and memory.
Contrary to popular belief, babies are designed to sleep and most are capable of sleeping 12 hours through the night by 8 to 12 weeks old. Sleep deprivation is detrimental to our health, is an internationally recognised form of torture, and not something that babies or parents need be experiencing! You will find masses of information behind this door on many different, sleep-related topics that will help you achieve positive sleep associations with your little ones throughout the years
Milk Feeding Station
How you should feed your baby is a much-discussed topic that arouses strong feelings, firm opinions and often judgemental views from all those involved – and even from those who are not! Everyone has an opinion and will eagerly share it with you, even though you may not wish to hear what they have to say or to follow the advice they offer.
Milk feeding your baby—whether through breastfeeding, formula, or a combination—provides essential nutrition, comfort, and connection. It’s a time for bonding as your baby receives the fats, proteins, and nutrients they need to grow and develop. Every baby is different, and feeding choices should support both the baby’s needs and the parent’s wellbeing. What matters most is that your baby is nourished, loved, and thriving.
The Reflux & Colic Clinic
Interestingly, there is much written about so-called ‘colic’ in babies, and everyone seems to have an opinion on it. I have found that many babies are diagnosed as having colic, but this can mean very little in reality as there is no medical definition for the term and it is really just a non-descriptive word for pain.
Reflux is quite simply, the backward flow of the stomach contents, which rise up the esophagus, along with gastric acid and gut bacteria, causing all sorts of issues. In babies and young children, it can often become quite a complex problem, which needs patience, understanding, help & support, along with some expert knowledge and sometimes medical intervention to manage & resolve the issues for each individual. Alison has become renowned as the absolute reflux guru and he will find masses of information to help you behind this door.
The Routines Room
“You can’t put baby in a routine” they all say,
But a baby soon knows when to eat sleep and play.
Although they’re not robots and each day will vary,
It all falls into place, with advice from ‘The Magic Sleep Fairy’
How you should feed your baby is a much-discussed topic that arouses strong feelings, firm opinions and often judgemental views from all those involved – and even from those who are not! Everyone has an opinion and will eagerly share it with you, even though you may not wish to hear what they have to say or to follow the advice they offer.
Many people think that a baby is unable to fall into any sort of routine until around 3, or even 6 months old! However, the sooner you put a structure in place the easier it is for both you and your baby to enjoy life. Babies learn by association, almost from the moment they are born, very quickly getting used to what is introduced and the conditions surrounding the way they feed and sleep, so whatever you implement in those first few weeks will become the norm for your baby. Trying then to change and introduce something different can often cause confusion and difficulties for both of you. This is why I advise establishing a routine and following my ‘plan’ as set out in my Baby Book and there’s reams of further information that will help, behind this door.
Toddler Advice Centre
In reality, there are endless topics upon which I aim to provide you with as much of the essential information you need for those first 12 months, but for older babies, toddlers and children the list becomes almost infinite! There are a number of topics already here – such as SLEEP, EARLY WAKING, BEDTIME, NAP-TIMES & QUIET-TIME, BEDTIME REFUSALS, BEDTIME WITH MORE THAN ONE, NIGHT WAKINGS – to name a few, which will give you unique and useful information. New content and topics will be added over time and for as long as you subscribe, you will be able to access this, and all new information as it is uploaded.
